May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and there are plenty of tips for riders to be aware of whether they’ve been riding for 5 months or 25 years. With our sister company, Two Brothers Racing, in the thick of the motorcycle industry, we at Rokform put a huge importance on enjoying a safe motorcycling experience. With that, we’ve gathered a few tips to pass on for both the motorcyclist and automobile driver.
Share the Road
Motorcyclists have the same rights and privileges as any other vehicle on the road, but it is still important to be aware of your surroundings and make sure that you share the road. Drivers are also encouraged to keep an eye out for motorcycle riders and be aware that they are on the road as well!
Drivers Should Give Motorcyclists Extra Space
When driving a vehicle, remember that sharing the road means giving motorcyclists extra space when following them. They may be smaller, but the operation of a motorcycle is different than a car. They can stop faster and maneuver more nimbly, so just give them that extra room.
Be Aware of Blind Spots
When riding, remember that many cars have large blind spots. When passing or riding near a driver, visualize where their blind spot is and avoid it. Most crashes occur because a motorcyclist was in a driver’s blind spot.
Always Wear a Helmet
No matter how short or far your ride is, always wear a helmet when on your bike. According to the NHTSA, over 1600 riders are saved by helmets in accidents annually.
Check (And Use) Your Signals
This might sound like a no brainer, but always remember to use your signals when making a turn or changing lanes. Additionally, know how your signals work. Many motorcycles do not have self-cancelling turn signals, which means that they will continue to blink after making your turn. If this is the case- remember to cancel the signal to avoid confusing others on the road.
With Rokform’s beginnings closely associated with our sister company Two Brothers Racing, a mount made for a motorcycle was high on the priority list. This in turn developed the Rokform Motorcycle Mount , which allows users to keep the phone close to use as navigation or the radio. Whether you’re interested in a fork mount or handlebar mount, Rokform is ready to take your ride to the next level. Be safe out there!
