A whole year has passed since we’ve seen upgrades to Samsung’s flagship device, but it is finally here – the Galaxy S7. While last year’s S6 received significant and much-needed upgrades, the S7 takes those upgrades a step further.
The first and most noticeable upgrade is to the screen. A larger, 5.5-inch display may seem large because the device is considerably smaller compared to other phones with screens of that size. Is it the best screen ever on a smartphone? BGR asked a screen expert – yes there are such things – and they think this is one of the best screens on the market only rivaled by its Galaxy counterpart in the Note 5. And The Verge points out that the back of the device has been given a curve, just slightly, allowing for a better feel in your hand.
Another upgrade, especially those going from an S5 to and S7 as GottaBeMobile compares, that many of our active users might be attracted to is its waterproof feature. Samsung says its phone can be submerged in 1.5 meters (just under 5 feet) of water for 30 minutes at a time. So anyone worried about a little rain can breathe a sigh of relief because a little water won’t be damaging the S7.
While the S7 went from a 16-megapixel shooter to a 12, Samsung is adamant that their larger pixels help draw in 56 percent more light. Add that to the lens’ brighter f/1.7 aperture, users are looking at a camera that is 95% brighter than the S6. So all you food photographers should be happy about that when trying to capture the world’s best sushi roll in the middle of dinner mood lighting.
Like the S7’s subtle upgrades, the Rokform case will have some slight improvements from the S6 to S7 case. The design is slightly more compact, but we increased the TPU on the front rim to help better protect that large screen. It comes with the larger Roksafe Magnet for magnetic mounting, along with the Rokform Twist Lock that is compatible with an array of accessories. Available at the end of March, head over to the product page and check out all the details.
