2021 iPhone Rumor Roundup (updated August 2021)

We are just over a month away from Apple’s 2021 iPhone lineup release. The Rokform team has been busy pouring over some rumors in preparation for the corresponding Rokform smartphone cases for the 2021 iPhones. If you haven’t been following the latest iPhone news and rumors—no worries, that’s what we’re here for! Here’s everything you need to know about the iPhones coming this fall.

Release date

As noted above, we are expecting Apple to follow its usual schedule and release the new iPhones in the first half of September 2021. While the date hasn’t been set just yet, it will probably be on a Tuesday, either September 7 or September 14.

Four phones, similar naming as last year

Rumor has it, iPhone names will follow the same pattern as last year’s. There's a small chance this lineup might start with iPhone 12s instead.

  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max

iPhone 13 Prices

Prices are expected to stay similar to last year’s lineup. Starting prices for each model are below; prices will increase depending on storage space.

  • iPhone 13 Mini - $699 and up
  • iPhone 13 - $799 and up
  • iPhone 13 Pro - $999 and up
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max - $1099 and up

Same sizes as the iPhone 12 lineup

Rumor has it sizes are expected to also follow the same pattern as last year’s.

  • iPhone 13 Mini - 5.4 inches
  • iPhone 13 - 6.1 inches
  • iPhone 13 Pro - 6.1 inches
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max - 6.7 inches

While the size specifications should stay the same, each model is expected to be slightly heavier (due in part to increased battery sizes and/or larger rear camera system).

No major design changes

When Apple introduced the iPhone Mini last year, it brought back the flatter edges from former iPhone models. This year, we’re not expecting any major design changes. According to some analysts, one small design change is the decrease in size of the notch.

Camera upgrades

The iPhone 13 Pro Max lens will get a slight upgrade, moving to a 7-element lens with f/1.5 aperture. The Ultra Wide camera on the entire lineup is expected to get an upgrade from a 5-element f/2.4 lens to a 6-element f/1.8 lens. Sensor-shift stabilization is expected to be extended from just the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the entire iPhone 13 lineup. Also possible for the iPhone 13 Pro is an upgraded telephoto camera.

Longer battery life

The battery for all 2021 iPhones is expected to be larger, which means extended battery life across the board. As noted above, this also means that the iPhone models will be slightly heavier than models past.

Long live the Lightning cable

Older rumors believed Apple might swap the iPhones charging cable from Lightning to USB-C. According to the latest rumors, this change won’t be happening with the 2021 iPhones.
