Show me the dirt…Mountain Bike Destinations
Central Oregon
There is no doubt that Oregon is full of beautiful scenery and seeing it as you pedal your mountain bike really is something special. The Oregonian recently highlighted a few great spots in Central Oregon, including Maston scenic area - between Bend and Redmond, Smith Rock State Park and Peterson Ridge Trail System.

Fruita, Colorado – A Women’s Only Vacation
Forbes contributor Allison Olmsted recently showcased a new tour operator that has targeted women. Chasing Epic trips has set up itineraries that guarantee an awesome adventure for the intermediate to expert rider. The Fruita area is known for some amazing riding, including the nearby Kokopelli Trail that connects nearby Loma to Moab, Utah. Not that you’ll be going that far, but the trail system is in great supply.

Brevard, North Carolina
Out east, a worthwhile stop would be in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. According to Outside Magazine, this might be the country’s best-kept secret when it comes to mountain biking trails. A local base camp called The Bike Farm offers up all the needed functions from lodging to guided tours, and even have bike camps and coaching on their schedule.

Hitting the Road…Road Bike Destinations
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
In the midst of all the historical hot spots that already make Philly a social studies tourist dream are several trails that link several attractions around the city. According to Fodors, the Schuylkill River Trail stretches 27 miles along the water from the Philadelphia Museum of Art to Valley Forge National Historic Park. Pennsylvania is one of the key states in the Rails-To-Trails Conservancy that transforms defunct railways into bike paths.

Green Mountains, Vermont
If you thought Vermont was only for your winter retreat, you’ll want to pencil in a biking adventure to the incredibly scenic Green Mountains of Vermont. With the Appalachian Gap and the Middleburry Gap providing great landscapes, there are some great options. This 70-mile ride will challenge you with just over 5,000 feet of climbing.

Sea to Summit – San Francisco, California
Gear Patrol put together their top 25 list of cycling routes and Northern California’s Sea to Summit provides one of the larger elevation gains on their list. With 6,272 feet of elevation gain, you’ll be enjoying some great views, especially at the summit where you get a wide-open view of Bolinas Ridge. You can check out the Strava segment here.
